Love the garden you planted. It’s growing isn’t it?
90% of my work is spinning up momentum, forcing something to start that would otherwise not exist.
The world resists new things. They take an effort on the input that dramatically exceeds the output.
Sometimes the effort feels futile, but the roots grow under the ground.
Then one day, it starts to happen. The first shoots appear. Things visibly begin to grow on their own.
Yesterday I had a day that felt difficult.
It was bursting with activity. It was sliced into 30-minute intervals. Not enough time on too many things.
My ‘garden’ was erupting with weeds as well as beautiful plants.
I struggled to stay in the game until the end, but I made it.
But was it difficult, or was it astonishing and inevitable?
When I reflected at the end of the day, I reminded myself that the day was of my own making. I wanted to create momentum, and I had done so.
Inevitably some of the plants will be weeds. Inevitably some days, the garden will grow in a way that is not predictable or perfect for my working day.
That’s what I want. I want things to grow in their own surprising and wonderful way.
So, well done, Phil.
Keep it up.
